Here's the cover for the Russian language edition of DEVLIN'S JUSTICE (Правосудие Девлина) which was released in July.

Once again they've completely changed the style from the previous covers. But it's still pretty cool, and even cooler to find message boards discussing the works of Патриция Брей (Patricia Bray).

THE FIRST BETRAYAL will also be appearing in a Russian language edition. Will be interesting to see what they make of that one.

PS - congrats. Your name is now bigger than the book title. You rock!

Thanks so much for your comment! It's great to hear from someone who has read one of the Russian translations.

Oh, neat! I do note, however, that the first one was translated not as "Devlin's Luck" but as "Devlin's Choice." Was there a reason behind it, or just a translationing glitch?

Thanks for letting me know, that's very interesting.

I suspect it was a deliberate choice--titles are one of those things that don't necessarily translate word for word across languages/cultures. I wasn't consulted about it, although the translator did contact me for information on the linguistic roots of the names and special terms I'd invented, which is very rare. Most times the author doesn't have any input into the translation and must simply admire the finished product when it arrives in her mailbox.

Is it just me, or does it look like they're trying to get a Clive Owen vibe going in the new one? Great covers, though, even if they don't seem to quite belong to the same series--or the books I enjoyed so much.
Cheers and grins,
Jean Marie

Yes, the covers do seem to be different in mood from the books that I wrote. Then, again, covers are very much a culturally influenced phenomenon--you have only to look at the different covers created for British versus American editions of the same novel to see this in action.

There's also the possibility that the publisher recycles their covers, something that's also done in the US, although it's not common among the major SF publishers. The Russian cover for DEVLIN'S LUCK does have more of a "Conan the Barbarian" feel than anything else, but hey, it obviously sold well enough to attract readers and inspire offers for subsequent novels, so from that standpoint the cover was a success.

I love the Sword of Change series... I actually just finished reading Devlin's Justice last night. I really do like the Russian Covers for Devlin's Luck and Honor.. but Justice.. Hm. What a cutie. Haha
