I went to look at condos this weekend with a friend, and upon seeing the giant walk-in closet in the master bedroom, my first thought was "If this was my place, all my clothes would fit in the guest closet, and then I could use this room for a library."

Well the appeal of the loft is being able to contain all of the office sprawl to a single spot, possibly making this the day job spot. Plus being able to toss offending objects (or toys that want to go "Whee!" over the side to land below.)

In the other layout, the kitchen/great room arrangement is nicer, but the desk would have to go in either the alcove (facing a wall) or a setup in the master bedroom.

Not that I've given this a ton of thought.... :-)

oh, no, that alcove is TOTALLY a reading nook. totally.

besides, converting the master bedroom to office space is what you did with your current home, and it's worked very well for you. stick with a trend that works!

And, my parents are reassured that you'd only be half an hour further away, and could still come see them. hypothetically. :-)

Well in a 3-bedroom place you can make one bedroom the office and still have a guest room, but in a 2-bedroom place I'd want to make sure I still had a guest room which means getting creative about figuring out office space. So, hypothetically speaking, a friend from Denver could come by and have a cave to sleep in.
