I read and write mostly SFF, so I'm thinking that if the author took so little care in building a believable world that he/she couldn't even find an authentic-sounding name for a character, the rest of the worldbuilding is going to be pretty slipshod as well. Seeing as worldbuilding is the major factor separating SFF from mainstream, and the reason why people read the genre... I'd be pretty darn careful about your Jonathans if I were an SFF author *grin*.
