OMG, I'm writing a fragment of an original poem to put in my fantasy novel. Can I be any more cliched?

P.S. I'm crap at poetry. This is going to suck even more than my prose.

I once wrote a story that included a truly awful poem that I made with magnetic poetry. It not only sold, it got my first good review. Of course, the poem was supposed to be dreadful...

Hee!

This poetry is supposed to be good--but I'm cheating since the part I'm including is described as a translation of the original, and thus any suckiness can be put down to a poor translation.

It's not an endless Elf Ballad or Dirge, is it?

It's only two lines. I do have my standards :-)

BTW, originally it was going to be longer, but after half an hour I realized that I'd already reached maximum suck with two lines and couldn't come up with anything else to add that I didn't hate. So now I have a poem fragment.

Just do it and let the chips fall, if it seems right for the story.

Yeah, I can count on my editor to let me know if I went totally off track.

So long as you're not rhyming "dragon" with "flagon", I think we're ok!

*winces* Yeah, that would be pretty bad.

But I'm sure I did it (or something similar) back when I was writing poetry as a teen....

Can't you just see that as a clue in a Harry Potter-ripoff?

I would be more offended at the rip-off of a Danny Kaye movie...
