THE SEA CHANGE is the title of my next release. And, according to Google, it's also the name of a 1998 British romantic comedy directed by Michael Bray (no relation).

Received the revision letter for The Sea Change yesterday, ending the anxiety. I didn't nail the book--but it's not irredeemably broken, which is the best outcome I could hope for. A frantic couple weeks of revisions is in my immediate future.

Putting on my promo hat, I've ordered the custom M&M's for the new book, and hope to have some to hand out at Lunacon. Will also be ordering and designing post cards. Last time I bribed my friendly graphics designer with pizza--she's now living a pizza-free lifestyle so I'll have to come up with a new bribe. Will try to get the new book cover up here and on my website sometime this weekend.

In response to the Ask Me Anything meme, I've posted answers to the first batch of questions. Click on the questions below to read, or click on the link above to submit new questions.

Just got back from hanging out with the Hard Lemonaders--(fellow writers and game nuts). Coincidentally [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow had also just had the revision talk with his editor, so there was much discussion of changes we needed to make, how to make them, and general whining interspersed with periodic expressions of "But really, it's not that bad."

For my revision letter--as usual my editor nailed what was wrong with the book. In particular she called me on the scene that I was avoiding writing but that really needed to be in the book. I can't just allude to it--I have to actually write it. And it's going to be dark--beyond dark, really.

Plus I need more sex. Well, if not sex, romance. Which is also not a surprise--and here I'm not talking about a major shift in the story line, but rather one of emphasis. I agree it's something that needs to be done, I just need to figure out how to do it.

This inspired me to break into song, as I sang:

Doom, despair and agony on me.
Deep dark depression, excessive misery.
If it weren't for bad sex, I'd have no sex at all.
Doom, despair and agony on me.

Which I found extremely witty, but my companions had never seen Hee Haw, so instead of laughing they just stared blankly at me. This is what happens when you hang out with a younger crowd....

Anyway, feeling optimistic. The revisions are manageable, I know what I need to do this weekend, and from there it's step by step until the book is done.
