So, if it's 1:30 in the morning and something bangs into the window screen hard enough to rattle it, should I assume that it was a bat? I'm not really up on my suburban backyard wildlife beyond the obvious (Squirrels, yes. Chipmunks, yes. Rabbits, yes. Skunks, raccoons and feral cats, occasionally).

Bats I haven't seen before, but I'm running out of other suspects.

Its either that or a cat that can jump very, very high.

Bats have been out like crazy lately though - its quite fun when we firespin and they just go into a frenzy through our backyard.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. I was trying to convince myself it was a really big moth but it would have to be a Sci-Fi channel special to make that much noise.
