Yep! #2 is a good idea. Plus, you can fill up the water bottle with good tasting water instead of mystery water.
#4. I always carry at least one full set of undergarments, a washcloth (flying overseas a few times taught me this), my travel size toiletries, my purse (it contains all the keys etc), meds, contact lenses/cleaning supplies and glasses, updated address book.
#6 I usually travel with three to four books cause I am prone to violent dislike of some stories and I have a dislike of being stuck somewhere kicking my heels bookless. Paperbacks only, hardbacks are far too big (why are they so big? They used to be able to make a hardback book about the size of a ppbk) and heavy.
#8 Make sure you are traveling in comfortable, practical clothing/shoes designed for living in for extended periods of time, sprints through the airport and survival.
