Anonymous comments no longer allowed

I'm tired of cleaning spam out of my livejournal, so I've turned off the ability to leave anonymous comments.

And as long as I am in public service announcement mode, remember that it's always open season here. Anyone can friend me or unfriend me at any time, and I promise I won't read anything into it.

Does that help with the spam from apparent LJ accounts? In a fun twist on How Things Are Usually Done, my LJ has recently been full of spam (much of it in Russian) posted by what appear to be actual LJ users (presumably they're actually some sort of LJ spambot?), while all the anonymous comments I get are from RL friends who aren't on LJ. I'm not willing to turn off anonymous comments for that reason, but I would really like a way to stanch the flow of spambot dreck. :P

I turned off anonymous comments about two months ago, and all of the junk promptly ceased. When the two factor Re-Captcha authentication fails....

Have you tried using ReCaptcha? That seemed to stop the LJ account spam for me, but not the anonymous variety.

Most of the spam I'm getting these days was from anonymous accounts, even with recaptcha set on for anonymous users.

I haven't been hit by LJ account spam in a while, knock on wood.

Exactly. When recaptcha failed to keep it down to a level that I consider reasonable, I had to turn things off.
