Curse you TNT!

Every time they show the Lord of the Rings movies, I get sucked in. I don't mean to. After all, I own the extended DVD version of all three movies. And yet, somehow, channel surfing stops and I find myself watching the movies, commercials and all. So far I'm three for three this weekend.

This time it was THE RETURN OF THE KING-- I caught the bit in the middle from the lighting of the torch ("Gondor calls for aid!"), the ride of the Rohirrim to aid Gondor, to the moment where Aragorn, wielding Andúril, confronts the army of the dead and demands their allegiance.

God, I love those movies.

The lighting of the torches gets me every time. ("Freedom is kindled!") I don't blame you at all for getting sucked in--those are pretty, shiny movies.

So pretty, so shiny. I'm shocked by the fact that it's been six years since the last one hit the screens--to my mind they are fresh.

and the lighting of the watchfires is still, IMO, one of the most beautiful, brilliantly-done bits of non-verbal filmmaking in decades. Gives me shivers, every time.

Yeah. I switched it on after hockey, and tried to do other things. I tend to cry a bit during this one.

I had to turn it off in self-preservation, since it was on till 12:30 AM here, and I knew I'd be wrecked at work today if I watched it.

But I'm thinking I may need to console myself by planning DVD watching time.
