Help! Nintendo DS Lite advice?
Dec. 14th, 2009 08:50 pmHypothetically speaking, if I were to buy a Nintendo DS Lite as a gift for someone, what kinds of games do they buy for it? Just regular Nintendo DS titles? Anything special I should know?
My last foray into the world of handheld videogames was quite a long, long time ago. A donkey's (kong's) years, at it were.
Advice?

I've never played it, but then I was into the Ultima series at the time.

Date: 2009-12-15 04:59 am (UTC)Lites are just the 'basic' console, so they play all regular DS games. You can't really get the 'original' (fat and heavy) DS consoles anymore unless you buy them second hand; the Lites replaced these.
Though, the new console is the DSi, which will also play all the regular games, but starting next year Nintendo will be slowly beginning to release new titles as DSi games which will not be compatible with the Lite. Plus some games will start coming out as 'DSiWare' which you download directly to the DSi (plus the DSi has the funky cameras and photo tools that can be good for a chuckle or two XD).
DS are my favourite consoles; I get fidgety and bored when not at home and since I can't write well/long by hand to take writing notes (ow ;;) my DS is my best friend XD My Lite is on its way out though so I'll probably be buying a DSi very shortly.
Ultimately, I would much more recommend a DSi for longevity; Lites are cheap now and will get cheaper, but now that there is new hardware out, it won't be too much longer before the game developers start supporting DSi titles more than regular DS ones -- much like how it's going with the PS2.
