When you have a netbook. This message brought to you by "EEK!" my new EEE PC netbook.

So far cute, reasonably fast. Still getting used to screen and keyboard--I've never used a touchpad mouse so that's the biggest adaptation. All I need now is a sleeve for it, and it will be ready to tag along on the bike trip, thus avoiding the prospect of internet withdrawal.

My new laptop also has a touchpad and it's mondo annoying. If you have the feature that lets you tap the pad in place of clicking, disable it. Otherwise, it'll delete two emails for the price of one, move around the screen while you're typing, etc. Just about everyone I've talked to who uses a computer primarily for writerly stuff has said they got a mouse instead. (Only problem: at least on mine, you can't make the mouse left-handed. That feature only seems to recognize the touchpad.)

Have fun with your new toy.

Ah, so that's why the touchpad is weird. It is doing that "tap and close" thing.

I have a small USB wireless mouse that I use for my work laptop, my wind up using it with this one. We'll see.

Very annoying. I actually did almost no writing (no "real" writing) for the first couple of weeks, because I kept being magically transported around the page. Very difficult to have the action make sense. Today I finally did what is *hopefully* the final edit on a bit of alt history fantasy.

You may. I had one that I had lying around and hooked it up, but then I remembered why it wasn't hooked up to the previous computer. Little matter of not working very well.

Do you plan to do any writing on your eee? I've been eyeballing netbooks as a cheaper alternative to my awkwardly designed and aging laptop.
I'd love to read a follow up post about your experiences with your eee PC.

I'm hoping that it will be good enough for writing sessions in a cafe, where I write for an hour or two. Other writers have had good experiences with theirs. For now, it's a good alternative to the aging (and heavy) laptop. I'll post a review after I've had it for a while.
