ETA: Good day for New England continues, as New Hampshire's legislature just passed a gay marriage bill. No word yet on whether their governor intends to sign it or veto it.

I hear ya. I live in PA, where it's Philadelphia... Pittsburgh... and Kentucky in the middle. And I live in the middle. Luckily, Harrisburg seems to be where all of us 'deviants' huddle together for safety. LOL.

Ditto for upstate New York, where pockets of liberalism are surrounded by deeply entrenched conservatism.

Yup. I live where many of the hippies live. My town seems to be split right down the middle. It took ten years for the plan to turn a large vacant (lakefront) area into a park instead of condos to go through. There is still a little section of proto-condo, but it's been a foundation for two years, so...? Anyway, the votes were always split by a margin of five or six. And I mean, five or six individual votes, yes. But I know at least one self-defined conservative who favors same-sex marriage. Others, you can't even talk to. You open your mouth and say, "Income tax..." they talk over you. "Hospital visitation..." etc. The fact that they won't let you finish, to me, shows how weak they feel their own position is.
