Last Sunday I woke up with a sore throat. By Monday it was a runny nose and sneezing, by Tuesday it was congestion and on Wednesday it had migrated to my lungs and I was standing in the cough & cold aisle, trying blearily to figure out which of the eleven thousand kinds of cold remedies I needed. Fever, yes. Body aches, not so much. Coughing, wheezing, congestion, yup, got them. It's been a few years since I had a cold or flu so naturally I don't remember what works for me and what doesn't, and ultimately wound up buying something red because the orange stuff scared me.

By then I had migrated to working from home, but was so exhausted that I resorted to blocking my calendar for an hour each afternoon so I could nap.

Started to turn the corner on Friday, and Friday night I was doing well enough to grab a meal out with Josh. Yesterday I managed to do a couple of errands, including picking up my bike after its spring tune-up. I had vague thoughts of being well enough to go riding today, but just preparing breakfast and taking a shower left me feeling like I needed a nap. I'm pleased to be over the worst of it, but the lethargy is annoying, as is the remaining mental fuzziness. Do I want to spend my energy going grocery shopping? Getting writing done today? It's bill paying Sunday, can I leave that till later or should I do it now?

Bah.

I blame the virus on my PC virus problems--as those who saw me in person can attest, I was so torqued over the whole episode that I wasn't sleeping well, and was likely run down enough to be easy prey for whatever germ is making the rounds. Judging by my friendslist, it's a nasty one.

Think it's time to see if another cup of coffee can jump start my brain into making a plan.

Based on the pattern I see forming, I'm calling this one Auctorial Flu.

I'm working on a theory that it's transmitted via a virus embedded in an MS Word macro...

*eek*

Because I have much, much writing to do and last night's scratchy throat has morphed into something that feels like a pre-cold in that everything feels just a little off. My last cold struck during the tail end of Denvention--didn't even have the decency to wait until I got home.

Fingers crossed that it's allergies after all, because it doesn't sound like fun. Glad you're coming around.

Sending good thoughts your way!

(At first I thought it was allergies as well, until alas it proved not.)

sleep, soup, and sudafed (or meds of your choice). Don't assume anything -- that's what got me, too.

Sleep Heals & Prevents!

At least I think it does. Adequate sleep is the one thing that most of us lack. And if we are stressed or getting even less than our normal amount of rest, we can be succeptable to whatever is floating around.

I go through a weekly cycle of sleeping in on the weekends, and then never getting quite enough during the week. That's probably because I work so early, but can never seem to go to bed when I should. Too many interesting things on TV, etc. I do know that come Friday afternoon, I'm usually so run down that about all I can do at the computer is check e-mail. If a reply requires more than a simple remark I usually save it for the weekend.

Anyway, I hope both you and your PC are feeling better.

I used to be able to switch my schedule like that but since I left my 20s behind (cough, cough) I find it easier just to stay on a constant schedule and try to get a consistent amount of sleep. Which I'm normally good about--except when I'm under stress.

I'd just as soon stay on a more fixed schedule. The only problem is that I'm in the the Pacific Time Zone and my work day equates very well to the Eastern. (I start at 4 am, which would be 7 am for you.) Oh well, when I'm published and have a best seller...or I win the Lotto!

Ugh! :P I hope you feel better soon. And thanks for reminding me to stock up on Claritin (my allergy season is just about to begin).

Thanks. Allergy season is in full swing here, which is why many of us are mistaking the initial signs of this bug for just another bad allergy day.

It sounds like you have what I had. Started a week ago Tuesday and I still have the remnants. Not remotely fun.
Feel better!
