Thanks to Jill for alerting me to the upcoming publication of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. From the official description: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action.

Can life get any better?

Dang -- I x-posted with you on this. Now I'll get blamed for stealing without attribution!

Why didn't we write this first? As a former Regency author and zombie fan, it should have been obvious that this is what the world was crying out for.

Had you done so, I would have been your undying minion/champion/devotee/bottom/slave.

I hope it's good. I'll be so annoyed if it's dumb.

I figure it will either be brilliant or so bad that it will be enshrined at future Sci-Fi cons as the book to read aloud and mock.

Yes, I hope for extremes. A mediocre rendition would be an insult to Austen and a terrible waste of an extremely funny idea.

Patricia, how about some Regency dress for the next zombies party at a Con?

You know, I still have two ballgowns leftover from my Regency days....

I can see some high school student trying to explain to his teacher why reading this version is superior than the original text.

There's another spoof or take-off of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE that I've been looking to read....PRIDE AND PROMISCUITY! I think it's available on Amazon, but I haven't gotten around to ordering it. Keep hoping to find it in a store somewhere.

On a different note, for those who are Naval Adventure (Hornblower, Jack Aubrey, Lord Ramage) fans, I'm reading a new one called UNDER ENEMY COLORS by S. Thomas Russell. In a nutshell, it's GOOD! (I do question a particular line regarding the time period and a reference to certain uniform accouterments, but...)

Thanks for the rec, I'll keep an eye out for it. Do you know if this was Russell's first book?

I understand it's the first in a series, but I'm not sure if it is his first ever. Somewhere in the author bio, acknowledgements I get the sense he has written other stuff previously. (My copy is a work so I can't check and verify at this moment.)
He has a website at www.sthomasrussell.com if I've remembered that correctly. It might have the answer for you.
