The fifth printing of DEVLIN'S HONOR was apparently done on a Friday the 13th. While the vast majority of the print run was fine, some readers found a key chapter was missing, replaced by a segment from a Stephen King novel. Others reported one or more missing pages.

Now one of those readers has decided to capitalize on the problem by auctioning off his "Extremely Rare Edition!" on e-bay. I hope he makes a killing.

Yet another reason (in addition to ebooks) that publishers need to update their production workflows!

I was just happy that this guy didn't think this was something I needed to fix. In the past, I've had readers who blamed me for the screwup and expected me to send them a replacement copy, at my expense.

Sheesh! People need to stop and think. If your newspaper arrives without a sports section, do you call up the sports reporters and start complaining? Of course not.

Now if you were self-published, I could see griping at you about it. -)

But that kind of error is highly actually highly unlikely in a POD scenario because that workflow is automated from a single PDF file, Typos and mistakes in a self-pub book, now that happens all the time.

That is pretty awesome!

Does this mean you can now say you have co-authored a book with Stephen King?

More like a co-published, wouldn't it be?

I think of us more as roommates rather than collaborators :-)

Would have been interesting if the error had been reversed, and pages from my book had been bound into one of his. Not sure if that would have won me any new readers, or simply earned the wrath of his devoted following.
