Next week [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow and I will be interviewed for the local evening news, as we're promoting the booksigning on January 17th. We did this last year and played it fairly straight-- well as straight as we could, given that we were interviewed on live TV while standing in a busy mall.

Hee, I just pictured myself launching into my best impression of an eccentric Victorian author. "When I was in India with Kipling, we encountered the most curious natives..."

It would be awesome.

Go for maximum gossip -- "There's no such thing as bad publicity."

And really, why the heck not? After all, this is the kind of newsprogram where our competition as interviewee of the day is someone who collects yarn balls or is raising three-headed goats.

viral baby, viral. Getting talked about on YouTube is better than having your parents be proud of how professional you look/sound....

I knew we would think alike :-)

And I did years of serious interviews in my romance author persona-- I even wore dresses (gasp!)

You don't seriously think the two of you could do two serious interviews in a row, do you? ;^)

(My vote, in case you hadn't guessed, is for option #2...)

The trick is to be just odd enough to be memorable, while not so bizarre that they make a sudden break to commercial.

I have to go with sylvia_rachel. I cannot picture you two "behaving." I've been on panels with the two of you together. Also, I've mostly only seen authors interviews on Jon Stewart, but I notice the book stores run out and order the books by the people who are memorable in the interview, not the prim and proper ones.

That said, if it were me, I'd have a hard time being anything but P&P. Been interviewed on TV twice, neither time about books.

I've done about 8 or 9 TV interviews, mostly studio interviews which are more formal. But my instincts from being in marketing tend to being excruciatingly professional.

Just point me to the YouTube video of one of you eating the other's brains when it comes out... *giggling*

And here I was more concerned that she'd eat the *interviewer's* brains.

I am really, really torn on this. I want to say option #2, but I don't know how it would actually bode for the bookstore, so I feel like I have to say #1.

Hmmmm....

Because the last thing April needs is for the district manager to wonder why she's letting lunatics into her store.

The trick will be to be interesting, without being outrageous.

Yes.

Actually, thinking back to Jon Stewart, he did have a guest who showed up in a tee shirt -- and not one with a clever picture and/or saying, more an "it's laundry day" tee-shirt, and Mr. Stewart was clearly a little put out.

I'm watching a Chicago Wolves hockey game--they just had a ribs eating contest during the period break. I think you two should excuse yourselves as the interview begins, then slide out the table full of ribs and have at it.
