I've yet to hit a single physical store, but have done a fair amount of online shopping. Almost everyone is getting books. Those who have other interests besides reading (cars! knitting! gardening!) are getting books about their favorite hobby. Those who have failed to mention new and interesting hobbies will be getting gift cards to book stores.

Family members are also sharing in either a sheep or a llama, I haven't made up my mind yet. I was going to go with the traditional sheep but frankly the llama is better looking.

I am buying for 21 people this year, at least 4 of whom have birthdays within 2 weeks of Christmas Day. I think the number may be higher, my brain is just blanking in terror.

P.S. I'm trying very hard to resist the urge to buy myself the "I AM THE STIG" t-shirt I saw for sale on the BBC America website. Only the knowledge that the BBC UK website has even cooler shirts is keeping me in check.

Is the sheep or llama for the Heifer Project?

Yup. I buy an animal every year from the Heifer project as part of the family gift. The kids think it's a riot, and wonder why we don't get to gift wrap and deliver the animal personally.

Keeping in mind, of course, that I'm merely donating money and the actual animal chosen is a symbol--Heifer decides where the money goes based on their project budget needs. But still, it's easier to explain "I bought a sheep for a family that needs one" than the less interesting "I gave money to a good cause."

True that.
I'm planning on Nothing But Nets for my brother who always says he doesn't want presents.

I was wondering what to get my apartment-already-stuffed parents for the holidays. I think a hive of bees would do it...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

That would be cool. I like the Heifer Project.

My brother's a vegetarian, and he's specified that he does not want a Heifer Project gift. mosquito netting, OTOH, he should find unobjectionable. Especially since he's always on about how just a small amount of foreign aid money could go far towards eliminating the malaria epidemic that plagues the entire continent.

That's an excellent idea.

Then I shall do that.

I'm bereft.
My email works not.
