For those wondering what I was up to last week, in preparation for Boskone's DEATH TO PEEPS party, I staged my very own Peep murder, complete with newspaper articles, crime scene photos, and case notes.

Newspaper coverage of the tragic death of Benjamin Peep.

The investigation remains confidential, but a source in the police department used her cell phone camera to snap a few pics of the working documents on Detective Moriarty's desk, which provide intriguing clues into the status of the investigation. I've included a sampling of these below.

Woman, that is one stale peep.

I weep for the late BJ.

I suppose it's hard to get a chalk outline to stick in a desktop Zen Garden?

He is an ex-peep, pining for the shelves.

Dining Questions

Has anyone considered that the alleged 'murder' may in fact have been motivated by a desire to eat?

The subject looks suspiciously like a chicken-person (perhaps a genetic hybrid) known to have been consumed at Easter time. Thinking legalistically, were those consuming the subject chickens then it would have been cannibalism. Otherwise, the act may well have been legal.

What is the penalty for cannibalism by chickens?

Hmm, a well-reasoned argument? Or web-blogging by a shill for the defense team, who hopes to be called as an expert witness?

Off to ponder....

Your theory is validated by the defendant's alleged statement to police, "Mm, good eatin'." Since the defendant is clearly not a chicken, he is not guilty of cannibalism.

I am more concerned about the investigator's possible conflict-of-interest. She is known to attend night courses in criminology, and panel-discussions concerning the death of "her peeps."
