How you can support the striking writers

Read Doris Egan (
tightropegirl)'s post for news on the strike and links to useful websites.
The latest idea is brilliant in its simplicity--fans and supporters joining together to send one giant shipment of pencils to the key moguls. No individual letter writing, no running down to the post office to mail a package, simply go to this website unitedhollywood.blogspot.com/2007/11/pencils2mediamoguls.html and make your donation. You can donate as little as a single dollar, which will buy one box of pencils, or as many boxes as you like.
Once you've made your donation, post a link in your blog or your website, and encourage others to do the same.
I've made my donations, in honor of my favorite shows. Looking forward to seeing what happens--I'm hoping that a forest of (eco-friendly, sustainable wood) pencils rains down on the big 6.

Date: 2007-11-19 08:30 pm (UTC)In the past some fan campaigns urge members to send individual packages to the studios, which can have mixed results. I remember the Farscape campaign where one fan site urged fans to mail crackers to the execs, not the best idea in the fall of 2001 when mailrooms were hyperalert for packages containing anthrax and other toxins.
But there's certainly a wide variety of fan response, from joining the picket lines to contributing to provided picketers with snacks. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
