Having met my personal writing goal for the month of September, it's time to reward myself.

Unfortunately, every treat I can imagine comes with a "But...."

A new bookcase would be nice--I've figured out a spot where I can put a three-foot high bookcase under a window. But first I have to finish reorganizing the writing room.

A DVD set would be nice, except I already have DVD sets I haven't had time to watch, plus tapes of all the new shows have just started that I didn't get to watch during the week.

I could use new fall clothes, but I need to do a thorough clean out of my wardrobe and donate everything that's in good shape but will never be worn again. It's been a few years since I've done this, so that's going to take a while.

CDs would be nice, especially for the long drive on Monday nights. But the car's CD player has begun eating CDs and failing to return them, so I need to get that fixed before I risk any more.

Hmm. Think I'm going to settle for a really nice lunch out, window shopping to check out book case options, and then try to finish reorganizing the writing room so I can buy a bookcase next weekend.

And for those wondering about the progress of Patricia-the-student, I'm confident that I've put more effort into studying for Monday's exam than the rest of the class combined. I began this morning by reading all of my notes, then putting together a study sheet so my coworkers can quiz me during lunch on Monday. If I score less than 100%, I'll ask my friends to hit me with a mallet.

Best part of all this? I'm auditing the class, so the instructor is letting me take the exam as a courtesy, since I won't be getting a grade at the completion of the course. Go ahead, open your dictionary to OCD and see the picture of me waving back at you.

Heee! But you forgot to tell everyone... the test will be multiple choice, with 2 not-more-than-a-paragraph essay questions. And the instructor GAVE YOU THE QUESTIONS. All of them. With answers.

If *anyone* in your class gets less than 100%, they are idiots.

Well the instructor didn't give us the answers on the sheet he handed out--but every question on there has been covered in one of the lectures, so if you've been awake and taking notes, you're all set.

You'd have to be criminally stupid, criminally lazy or both to fail this exam. [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow could probably give you the odds on how many of his students would fall into these categories....

Well, there are some people who *actually* can't take tests. I attended a training once where the instructor was talking about School Psychosis. She wasn't herself very bright, since she kept denegrating Gen X-ers after being told that two of us fit that category. When she got onto School Psychosis, she said, "But it's very rare."
"I had it," I said.
She said, "No, you don't understand. These kids actually get sick, with temperatures and everything."
"That's right," I said. She went on telling me I didn' know what I was talking about, grrrr...

But even *I* can manage a test to which I've been given all the questions ahead of time. :-)

So course is done?

Hee!

As for the class, this is the first of three exams. The class runs the full semester, which means we're done December 17th.

The instructor said he's never had a student fail, which is pretty easy to believe.

Wow. Those are study habits any student should be proud of!

I wasn't this way when I was in college the first time... think I've become more competitive with age.

If he gives everyone the questions ahead of time. that _would_ tend to up his average GPA.

Ah, three exams. That makes more sense. I was wondering if it was a seminar.

I t probably helps that your auditing ;-).
But seriously, as a voc-rehab counselor (certified, so I should probably capitalize, since I'm certifiable, but you knew that..) "older" students tend to take classwork more seriously than do "traditional" college students.
