After completing a book I experience a period of euphoria ("Yay, it's done!") which is almost immediately followed by book-hate. With zero emotional distance from the project, each flaw looms large in my mind's eye, and I am filled with self-loathing.

Therefore I'm surprised to find large chunks of the manuscript don't suck. There are parts that I really like, and whole sections that are competently written. Not sure if I'm passing through the post-novel stages more quickly than usual, or if this is the cumulative effect of sleep deprivation.

In other news, the bike trip is rapidly approaching and I need to get ready, so don't be surprised when I disappear from LJ for a while. When I get back later this month, I'll hopefully be recharged, and will have an entirely new project to begin talking about.

And I have a brand new, never-written-in notebook to take along the trip so I can make notes on the super secret new project.

The brand new notebook is key, you know. that and plenty of writing utensils. Blood just gets messy and too much distracts from clear thinking and bike riding.
