Listening to the internet radio station http://www.pandora.com while I work. You plug in the names of songs and/or artists that you like, and it uses the Music Genome project to select more songs that it thinks you'll like. You get the chance to vote thumbs-up/down to refine the choices.

The best part is clicking on the key that says "Why is this song playing?" According to my current selection, my previous choices have indicated that I like "emotional male lead vocal performances."

There's a reason why I've named this virtual station angst-rock.

That's awesome! Pandora is my life soundtrack. I just hope the RIAA doesn't stomp it out of exsistance.

According to Pandora, I like "lyrical female vocals" and "drum solos"...

Rock on!

I like drums too!

Though I figured since I've just found it, it's due to go under. I'm always the last to find anything cool :-)

Neat! How do you get it to enter more than one singer?

While you're listening there's a tab underneath the album covers labeled "Guide us".

Click on the tab for more choices. This will give you "thumbs up", "thumbs down", "I'm tired of this song", "why is this playing?", and "I want to add more kinds of music to this station".

I used the add more music option to slant the selections towards what I wanted, since my first seed song didn't quite get there.

It's fun! I've created one station for work, and another for music to write by.

I've even started making a list of CD's I want to buy, from new artists I've come across. I can hear alternative rock anywhere, but there are few opportunities to listen to Celtic/Folk albums to get a feel for what's new out there.

This looks like a great way to make discoveries. I'd never really listened to Ella Fitzgerald before, but she came up via Linda Eder. Nice voice!

This is what I love best about Pandora. I hadn't bought CDs since highschool until I started stumbling across artists on Pandora. And since a lot of the people I find aren't really big names, I can generally buy their CDs pretty cheap on Amazon.

It's like LauchCast, only cooler! And AT&T/Yahoo is my ISP so I get the High quality.

So I picked Bryan Adams as my first artist, and thumbs-downed a couple of songs after it, then got Dire Straits "So Far Away." Why? "features a subtle use of vocal harmony, major key tonality, a dynamic male vocalist, heartbreaking lyrics (?)..."

Pretty cool little site.

er.. that would be lauNchcast... seem to have omitted the N.

My peppier station started off on the right foot today, with Not Guilty by Bryan Adams Why? "...we're playing this track because it features a subtle use of vocal harmony, a vocal-centric aesthetic, major key tonality, an electric guitar solo (YES!), and a gravelly male vocalist."
