According to this article on the BBC's website the US Military is developing a robot bear to rescue wounded troops. The robot has a teddy bear style head, which is supposed to make it reassuring to the wounded....

And earlier in the week, in case you missed it Purple! Fluorescent! Frog!

It's not a lizard, but "purple fluoro frog" does have a certain ring to it.

The great thing about the bear is that it's made by Vecna Technologies.

"And then the hand of Vecna came down and saved me... along with Vecna's treads... and teddy bear head..."

If you go out on the battlefield today, you'd better not go alone.
It's scary out in combat today, and safer to stay at home.
For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain because,
Today's the day the teddy bears get their heads blown off by IED's while rescuing soldiers.

Isn't it though? It's exactly how I would have colored a frog picture when I was in kindergarten and the teacher would have lectured me for not being realistic, but I would have been totally right and it would just take a few decades before science caught up with what I already knew, so nyah-nyah-nyah!

(Yes, I'm over-sugared, why do you ask?)

That is a freakin' awesome frog. I'm also intrigued by the news that the researchers discovered twelve new species of dung beetle. Who knew?

So am I the only one who's going to have nightmares about that scary-ass teddy bear? They honestly think little bear ears are going to be reassuring to someone being hauled off a battlefield by a fricking robot?

What's next? Guns with itty-bitty smiley-faces painted on them? Maybe grenades with "have a nice day" engraved on the pin. Yikes.

I find the whole thing incredibly disturbing--how long before one of these robots goes evil? Just look at the expression in its eyes....
