Front page story from today's newspaper:

BINGHAMTON -- The Lost Dog Café will reopen today, after being forced to close Monday when a deer crashed through a window and ransacked the restaurant.

and then from what I understand, the deer tried to break through the window of the hotel, and failed, then ran off. Maybe it needed a nap?

I saw [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow at the gym last night, and he said that there are deer in downtown Binghamton all the time. Apparently they follow the Riverwalk and snack on all the tasty new plantings. Who would have thought?

I just want to know how a deer "ransacks" a place. To quote from The Princess Bride: "I don't think it means what you think it means."

I had a fleeting image of the deer running about and wildly drinking coffee. Which would explain his further run.

You know, our new library down there has BIIGGGG plate glass windows facing the riverwalk. We might be getting a few more patrons then we bargained for down there.

Yeah, that sounds about right for the region. :-) (My Mom's car has hit three deer over 20 years, I believe ...)

Well what's really odd is this was in downtown Binghamton--which is a city, even if it is a small one. Though apparenty it isn't the first deer that's been spotted wandering the city streets--according to [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow the deer are following the new riverwalk that leads through the heart of the city, munching on the tasty landscaping.

Hey, we get the occasional bear in Tucson (and the more frequent deer and javalina); deer don't surprise me at all. :-)
