Those socks are really nanoscopically saturated with molecular telewarp crystals solely designed for the purpose of alien kidnapping of innocent cyclists.
Might I suggest you inactivate the cystals by first searing the socks with a welding torch, soaking them in pure bleach and then running them through a paper shredder. After that they'll be perfectly safe to wear.
Hah! And if I were indeed one of you puny humans, I would be afraid. But I am, in fact, the vanguard of the alien invaders. I wear the socks to proclaim my allegiance to the alien overlords, and to help them home in on the prime target cyclists that will be surrounding me.
