It's now been eight weeks since I started working out. A milestone, of sorts. The workouts during the week are the hardest--each time I find a whole list of reasons why I should skip the workout. I need to stay at work to finish up just one more thing, I'm too tired, I really need to grocery shop, my leg is bothering me.... Yet so far I've manage to push past the excuses and force myself to go to the gym.
The iPod is a great distraction, but for sheer boredom, a stationary bike is near the top of my list. Luckily there's hope in sight--the bike shop has finished tuning up my bike for the season, so once the weather gets out of the 30s I'll be able to get out on the road and start dodging potholes and leftover sand. I'll still keep going to the gym during the week, but it will be nice to have an alternative for the weekends.
It's not that I'm an exercise fanatic. I just know that I feel better when I get regular exercise, and it's the right thing to do.
And if I keep faking it long enough, maybe one day I will actually be disciplined.

Date: 2007-04-06 05:28 pm (UTC)It's been years since I regularly worked out--I tend to get in shape for the annual bike trip and then slack off for months. But now that I'm on the other side of 40, I think it would be better to try and stay in shape year-round :-)

Hey what was that shameless self-promotion I just heard? And start with January. The older shows are... growing pains.
