pbray: (snow)
Rather than dawdling over my morning coffee, I got dressed, loaded the skis in the car and headed to Greenwood Park. "You're the first skier out today," the attendant told me. "Good. I like to get out early before the trails fill up with human debris," I replied. She cracked up, agreeing this was a wise plan.

I was more ambitious than on my first outing, mixing in medium trails with the easy ones. I wore the brace as a preventive measure, so only had half a snowplow when it came to going down hills, but the snow wasn't particularly fast.

Greenwood is a great place to go cross-country skiing. It's quiet--not a snowmobile to be heard. One of the easy trails is tracked while the rest are groomed. The only difficult part of the day was when I came round a bend and saw a family of four spread across the trail. Luckily I was able to stop before running over anyone. It's great to see people taking their kids out, but they're also the reason that I normally avoid the easy trails. Ah, well, it's still great to get out, and maybe later this winter my ankle will be improved enough that I can stick to the harder trails.

And with more snow forecast for this week, odds are good that I'll be able to get out again soon.
