Waiting for the starting bell
Jan. 10th, 2009 05:24 pmWorking every night this weekend, which cuts into social life. But did manage to write this morning, and get out to lunch at the Lost Dog before the roads got too bad. Depending on the source, we're expecting 5-9 or 6-12 inches of snow.
Now getting ready for the daily status call, which has three options.
1) Everything finished up early and you can start processing. (Almost never heard)
2) Things are on track for a scheduled 8PM start. (What we hope for.)
3) Things have gone south at high-speed. The weeping lamentations and gnashing of teeth that you're hearing are coming from the support programming team. We could be done roughly on time, or we could be at this all night. (Most often heard at year-end or quarter close.)
Meanwhile, I'm trying a new recipe tonight. I received four cookbooks for Christmas :-) in keeping with my interest in expanding my nightly dining options. Tonight it's a southwestern veggie, rice and cheese casserole, resulting in stacks of pots, pans and bowls to be washed. But if it comes out well, I'll have several meals.
And if it doesn't... well, I'll still have several meals.
ETA: Alas it was option 3. I can't help fix the problem, but I can't do my job until it is fixed, so I'll be spending the forseeable future checking the status board at 15 minute intervals until I get the green light to start working. But on the plus side, dinner will be ready in 5.
ETA #2: Dinner was excellent!
