Sheila has sent in her second report on the mysteries that I sent her, based on the recommendations folks sent in. Here's what she had to say:

Memorial Day by Vince Flynn
WHAT a great great book. This was my first exposure to Vince Flynn, but I assure you it will not be my last. This guy can write. His plot about an imminent terrorist attack on the US is very intriguing....his characters are believable, and the book is just plain exciting. And the hero, Mitch Rapp, is the best. Super military guy with a complete disdain for proper procedures and political correctness. He takes the law into his own hands CONSTANTLY, but hey! He's Mitch Rapp! He can!

I loved this book.

High Profile by Robert Parker
Well, Robert Parker is still Robert Parker no matter who the main characters are. This book read very fast....There's not a lot of substance to it. He writes like he is writing for tv. Lots of one liners, and insert "knowing wink here" kind of thing. Still, it was an ok book, just not much to it. Pretty easy to figure out who the bad guy(s) were, and why. (and the relationship Jesse Stone had with his ex wife made me want to puke.)

Coyote Waits by Tony Hillerman
Very interesting book. I had not read any of this series. So I kind of felt lost in the beginning with all of the Navajo references. But, I soon caught up to speed... and there was enough plot twists to keep even me happy! And, the cool thing (I think) about reading books is when you get one that inspires you to learn more about the culture, language, country, history, etc. This book definitely left me with an urge to read more....

And, that's it so far....My dear sister and brother graciously showered me with gift cards to Barnes and Noble for my birthday, so I just went and got...another Vince Flynn!

Thanks to all of you who sent your suggestions. So far I have gotten 4 new authors to devour....mmmmm...books good!!!

Her first report is here.

As an aside, Sheila is someone who loves to read, but since money is tight she's often reluctant to try new authors unless she gets a recommendation from someone she trusts. In this case, I sent books from eight new (well, new to her) authors, and she's already added four of them to her "must buy" list. Putting on my author-marketing hat, there's something to be said for that free (or low cost) introductory taste as a way to get people hooked on our books.
