Slowly drying out
Jun. 30th, 2006 09:46 pmFlood waters are starting to recede, but it's a long way from normal. Major roads are still closed so going anywhere involves a lengthy session of "Can I get there from here?" and the corollary "If I can get there, will it be open?"
Joshua Palmatier (
jpsorrow) was finally able to access his storage unit and found a grim tale. Not surprisingly it's the damaged books that he's most upset about.
Life goes on for the rest of us. My town is one of several in the area under an indefinite boil water order, which is doable for a few days, but will grow tiring if it stretches into weeks as they've threatened. The sewage treatment plants are out of commission and dumping raw sewage into the river--which has overflowed its banks and contaminated the town wells. They have to wait for the water levels to drop before they can even get in there to assess the damage.
This weekend I'd planned to get significant writing and biking done. The writing will be fine, but the biking will require planning, as portions of both of my favorite training rides are closed due to the flooding. I'll have to figure out something else, and make sure to avoid the one road that's open and thus taking all the traffic. Grr.
