Quick post from the road
Nov. 26th, 2005 10:27 amQuick post on a borrowed laptop, as I'm spending Thanksgiving with
jennifer_dunne and her family. We'd volunteered to be the cooks for Thanksgiving dinner, and, if I may say so, we made a delicious dinner. I think there was a bit of astonishment on the part of Jennifer's mom--as I kept insisting that there was no simpler meal to prepare than a turkey dinner, and was then proven correct.
Like many people, they knew I didn't cook, and assumed this meant that I couldn't cook. But they are two entirely separate things. I'm perfectly capable of cooking, but I see no reason to. Just as I could make real coffee, but am perfectly happy drinking instant coffee in the morning. Low brow taste in food, it works for me.
Saw the new Harry Potter movie last night--typical theater experience. 20 minutes of before show informercials, then 15 minutes of previews. There were a number of children in the audience who were far too young to be there, including a fussy infant who appeared to be less than a year old, and a handful of pre-schoolers who were alternately terrified or bored and acting out. But overall the movie was worth seeing, and afterwards over dinner we had fun talking about how the various subplots in the book had been mangled or entirely eliminated in order to make the movie a manageable length.
Have managed to avoid any shopping whatsoever this weekend, and am hoping to continue the trend today. Did bring some pages to critique and may try outlining the next couple of scenes if we get any quiet time later. And there's a laptop that needs to be rebuilt for Jennifer's parents, so that should consume a good part of the afternoon.
Now off to try and catch up with my friends list.
