Books, books, everywhere
Jun. 23rd, 2005 09:50 amI'm contemplating tackling the writing room and doing a major cleanup/reorganization this weekend. One of the problems with that room is the two boxes of TBR books, plus the stacks of books that I have read that have spilled out of the bookcases onto the floor and any other horizontal surface.
Related to this is the problem of the books that I have squirreled away in other parts of the house. The books are in bookcases. They are in closets. They are in sweater boxes stuffed under beds. They are in the two dozen large plastic tubs in the basement, with an overflow on the basement shelves. They are everywhere. And while I've pruned the romance and general fiction titles from time to time, I've never done a pruning of my SF/fantasy titles. I think after twenty-seven years of serious accumulation, it may be time to separate out the books I truly want to keep versus those I'm just hanging on to because when I starting buying books each book represented an hour (or more) of a minimum wage job and therefore even the dullest book was precious.
And then maybe look at the wallspace-- I think I can squeeze another bookcase into the writing room. And with a little reconfiguration, I might be able to get another bookcase, perhaps a low one, in the living room.
But first I need to go through the books and see what I'm dealing with. Or maybe I'll just buy another half-dozen storage tubs and duck the problem for another six months.
