It's starting to feel like spring around here. The grass is growing, the crocuses came up (and were promptly eaten by the critters), and I took my bike in to the shop for its spring tune-up. Bike shop is backed up so it may take ten days or longer. Bummer.

The important thing to note was that last year the annual bike trip was in October, which gave me all summer to train. This year the trip is in July, which means less time to train, particularly if we get a cold and nasty spring like the one we had a couple of years ago. Still, it's not as insane as the year we went on a trip in early June. I'd been out on the road on my bike less than a half-dozen times before that trip, and it showed. And this year's trip is in Quebec, on far easier terrain than the Utah mountains, so it should all work out.

Thinking I may treat myself to a new bike this summer. This bike is ten years old, and while it's still a very good bike, it's a tad heavy by today's standards, and I'm told a custom fitted frame would do good things for my back. Naturally the bike I'd really like is $$$$, but it's hard for me to justify spending that much money on something that is going to get dinged up by gravel and soaked in the rain.
