Today's puzzling thought-- why has there been a jump in the rankings of the Devlin series on Amazon.Com? I haven't done anything particular clever or promotional recently. Hmm.
In a related thought, why am I checking the rankings on Amazon.Com? Oh, right, I know that one. Navel-gazing.
Now on to the purpose of my Amazon search. I need more books. Research books, this time. Let's quickly skip over the fact that I live in a small ranch house and that there's not enough room for the books I already own, nor room to install more bookcases. Having ignored that troubling bit of reality, it's time to invest in more research books. Last week I bought two books on ships from Barnes & Noble, and now I'm looking for a decent resource on antique costuming. And buying my own copy of the Venice book, which the library insists that I return. Luckily it's in paperback for $25.
I already own three volumes on Georgian & Regency fashions from my past life, plus the handy "What People Wore" and "Chronicle of Western Fashion", but the general books skim over the areas I'm interested in. Lots of stuff if you want details on medieval European up till the present, but very little from other periods and places.
Also planning to swing by library after work to pick through their selection of costume books. And if all else fails, there's the SUNY library where non-students can browse if we promise to behave ourselves.
