Found a new must see program-- Dexter on Showtime. Totally by accident I caught episode two last night, and then hunted around till I found episode one via cable on demand. If you haven't heard of it, Dexter's a serial killer who happens to work for the Miami police department as a blood spatter analyst. He enjoys his work analyzing blood spatter almost as much as he enjoys his hobby of ridding Florida of criminals that the police can't touch.

Dexter's an incredibly vivid character who springs immediately to life in all his twisted glory. I wish I'd created him. The series is based on the book Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. Now I want to read the book, but think I'll wait a bit, so I don't taint my initial impressions of the TV series.

The first two episodes are available for viewing at Showtime's website.

We have it at Waldenbooks -- I was looking at it the other day since I don't have cable.

It's worth checking out. I did some websurfing and the book garnered a lot of really good reviews when it first came out.

Plus you can watch the first couple of episodes free on Showtime's website, which is one of those "Wow it's 2006" kinda things. I'm used to the days of VCRs and having friends with cable tape things for you, but technology marches on.

Have to agree, episode three was excellent. I was holding my breath, waiting for the inevitable dull thud of a good story idea crashing to earth, but so far they've confounded my expectations.

Of course it helps that it's Showtime. Network TV could never go this far.

Yes, but is it as good as Dexter's Laboratory?

Just sprained my brain imagining a crossover universe where this Dexter is what happened when Dexter grew up :-)
