In honor of my birthday, I took the afternoon off from work. I used the time to check out a new gym, where I signed up in the hopes that my failure to workout can be cured via geographical change. Then I went to the bookstore to buy books because that's how every birthday should be celebrated. Returning home, I spent a couple hours reworking a synopsis, since every birthday should also include some writing time.

I've received many lovely gifts, but the award for the coolest and most unexpected goes to Julie for the box of candy skulls, which will enliven the next gathering at my place. And the award for best card goes to Jennifer for the Onion card ("Dolphins Not So Intelligent On Land") which is extra funny if you know Jennifer (or have ever heard her laugh.)

Heading over to Josh's for game night tonight, where with my usual skill I'll undoubtedly navigate my trains into the ocean or discover that my beanfields have been hit by crop blight. A low key day, filled with fun things, which is just what a birthday ought to be.

Happy birthday!

Have some cake :-)!

And I'm laughing just thinking of the dolphins...

Of course. (Actually, a mixture, which just seemed appropriate for the occasion.)

*laughs* That's a funny card. :) Happy birthday!

(Also, consider sticking a notecard up at your gym & see if you can find a workout partner, where 'workout partner' may mean nothing more than 'somebody who will expect you to be there at X time', because I think that's actually the best way to cure the failure to work out problem...)

Thanks!

[livejournal.com profile] fireun has volunteered to work out with me, so we'll see if that helps. Plus, of course, there's the annual bike expeditions looming in the horizon, which are always a motivator.
