USA Today brings us the story of the author who claims to be a descendant of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Simon & Schuster is planning an initial print run of 250,000 for her autobiographical religious thriller. They're also spending $$$ to send her on a cross-country promotion tour.

Now I know what I'm doing wrong. Next time Anne asks me for an author bio I'll be sure to mention my special heritage. Mary Magdalene is passe, but hey if Joseph of Arimathea made it to Britain he could easily have stopped by Ireland, and if I think hard I know I'll be able to recall the family legends of our illustrious ancestor, as well as all the secret documentation that I will constantly allude to but never share with anyone.

I actually found the Holy Blood, Holy Grail to be interesting, if albit doubtful in terms of realiability. I found some of it to be plausible, even. DaVinci Code was frankly, dull.

But this story? Wow. It goes to show that companies will run with anything to make money.

No matter where this is put in the store, people will complain - we put it in religion, people will complain. We put it in New Age, oh hell, I will burn it myself. Maybe we can put it next to james frey!
