Row, row, row your manuscript

pbrayThe galleys have rowed off--or rather in this case they are heading by plane/truck down to NYC.
A few thoughts on the process. First, for those who remember my whining about the copy-edits, I was pleased to see that all of my STET's were honored. It's a nice sign of respect, and also a reflection of the fact that I pick my battles carefully.
In my first look at the galleys I had a brief anxiety attack because the page count appeared too short and I was certain that they'd left out entire chapters. This novel is longer than DEVLIN'S LUCK, yet the page count for the galleys was significantly shorter, and by significantly I mean 35 pages. Comparing the galleys to the printed paperback for DL, I can see that they are now squeezing in two extra lines per page, and the font may be fractionally smaller though it's hard to tell with the naked eye.
I still can't tell if this is a good book or not. I'm too emotionally close to it. There were a few lines that made me laugh, and one scene that gets me in the gut every time, but other than that, I don't know. As![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
