Enter villain, stage left

Writing: 2,547 words today, in two sessions.

Seems like its taking forever to assemble the key players on stage. This is one of those things where in the outline I simply wrote "N's funeral" but I've been writing for a day and a half now, and still haven't gotten to the funeral. I figure it's at least one, possibly two more scenes before I get all the set up done.

I know this stuff is vital and important, and I'm sure that once I have someone else read it, they'll tell me that it's not dragging. But right now I'm cursing myself. I mean, come on, N's been dead for days, how long is it going to take me to get the body in the ground and get on with the next act of the conspiracy? Something's starting to smell around here....

Writing. Some days it's good. Some days it sucks. Some days you write pages of great stuff but then feel like you've only moved the ball a couple of inches towards the goal line.

Getting the opportunity to see the process is a big help. All the fussing about, "Is this how it's supposed to go down?" I now realize is pretty standard.
The books don't talk about the emotional roller coaster of the process. Or that the emotional roller coaster will continue to live inside of you even after breaking into the world of PUBLISHED!!

That's why livejournal is so great. In the pre-weblog days, I would get together with local writers (aka The Hard Lemonade Science Fiction Society) and we would commiserate over the process. Now I don't have to wait for weekly get togethers to share with folks know that I'm having a really good (or really crappy) day writing, and my circle of fellow toilers has expanded far beyond the immediate environs of my house.

LiveJournal is very cool! So many people to experience. So many people who 'get' the whole writing thing. So many people to talk shop with.

I've got just the one writing pal here locally but there is a new local writing community that I'll look into when it starts up after the holidays.
