Living your dreams
Nov. 15th, 2005 12:07 pmToday marks the official opening of Purple Awning Pastries in Endicott, New York. For years my friend Judy Ghosin talked about wanting to open her own bakery, and this year she decided the time had come to leave the corporate world and take the plunge.
At lunch today a few of us went over to visit her, sampled the offerings (yum!) and placed orders for Thanksgiving desserts. Her bakery is gorgeous, and the treats inside are amazing. You wouldn't believe the delicate swan shaped cream puffs that she was handing out as samples, they were (almost) too good to eat.
Wishing her the very best. I know I'm going to be stopping there often, and will need to increase my exercise regime to match :-)

Date: 2005-11-15 07:11 pm (UTC)For Thanksgiving I ordered a traditional dessert :-) Chocolate Bourbon Cake. Chocolate cake, bourbon mousse filling separating the layers, then chocolate icing. Mmmmm, can't wait.
Judy was my manager back when I first became a published author, and she was great about encouraging me to pursue my dreams, so it's wonderful to see her pursue hers.

Date: 2005-11-16 03:41 am (UTC)She's been planning this for years, and is really smart about how she's gone about it. Quitting your day job to become a full time writer isn't quite the same thing (for one thing we don't need a health certificate nor staff in embroidered aprons), but much of what she has did to put together her long range plans is exactly what I'm doing in looking at the day I can leave CorporateWorld.
Unless, of course, I strike the mega lottery this week, in which case I'll be leaving CorporateWorld a bit sooner than I'd planned-- and buying drinks at cons from now until the money runs out.

Then my day job quit me 13 months ahead of schedule, which gave me a lot more room to do the full-time writing part, although rather less of a financial cushion than I'd hoped for. :)
I vote for you winning the mega lottery, and I'll meet you at the next con. :)
