Fly and be free
Oct. 27th, 2005 01:47 pmThe revised manuscript for THE FIRST BETRAYAL is now on its way to New York. Naturally as soon as I hit send I had that brief moment of terror "No, it's not perfect yet," but I simply took deep breaths.
This week I learned that DEVLIN'S LUCK has gone back to press. Again. I'm thrilled and humbled to know that a book that was first published in April 2002 is still in print, and there's enough reader demand to keep it on store shelves.
In other writing news, tick, tock, WFC is a week away and I must be very very busy this weekend.
In family news, yesterday I sent a care package to my brother in Ft. Lauderdale. There's no electricity, intermittent running water, and no real idea when things will be anywhere near normal, but the UPS truck was delivering on his street yesterday, so he called me on his cell phone with a couple urgent requests that I was able to pick up and ship to him overnight. The folks at the UPS Store were very nice-- they packaged everything up and gave me a discount on overnight shipping once they heard why I was sending camping equipment down to Florida. According to their website the package made it there just fine, so it's a good day all around.

Date: 2005-10-31 02:43 pm (UTC)Seriously, though, there are lots of ups and downs in the writing life-- days when you struggle to write and end up with pages of crap, dealing with rejections, lackluster reviews, trying to find the time to be creative when you're balancing a 60 hour a week day job and a personal life. Then there are the good things-- a fan letter in your e-mail, a nice review in Locus, the news that your book is going back to press, or someone at a con taking the time to introduce themself to tell you how much they liked one of your stories. Then it all balances out, and I remember how much fun this is.
