Murphy pays a visit
Oct. 9th, 2005 07:04 pmOr how not to spend your day working on revisions.
Woke up this morning, had breakfast, read through the scenes I wanted to work on today, and then promptly at 9AM I sat down at the computer.
First attempt to launch Microsoft Word failed, so I rebooted.
Another failure.
After much debugging including a complete uninstall/reinstall of MS Word, still no luck. The minor harddrive issues I'd had before had escalated and now I had critical programs on the bad sectors.
At lunch time I was out buying a new PC, then came home and spent the afternoon transferring files and installing software. Now, 10 hours after this adventure started, the new system has the basics of what I need, but I'll have to spend another afternoon installing the rest of the programs.
Words written/revised today: Zero.
To pass the time this afternoon as the computer was crunching away, I had the Braves/Astros game on. It went 18 innings, and finished up right before I did. As the 11th inning turned to the 12th, and then the 13th, the announcers kept saying "I can't believe this is going on so long," and I knew just how they felt.

Date: 2005-10-10 01:06 pm (UTC)I love my computer... except of course for days like yesterday when I completely hate it. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. Reminds me a bit of that nursery rhyme-- "And when she was good she was very good, and when she was bad she was horrid."
