Hi. I'm a copy editor specializing in fantasy and science fiction, and I've recently completed the rough draft of my own first novel.

I'm afraid I don't actually remember how I found your journal--I was most likely impressed by a post you made in someone else's.

Having read the few pages that are available at Amazon, and having enjoyed them thoroughly, I shall pick this book up! But probably not until I move to the other side of the planet, for it is better to pay shipping later rather than sooner, or something. :) Anyway, awesome! Yay for Farscape!

Hi

I found your lj through one of the writing communities recently. They posted about your Top Ten Mistakes, so I friended you to read through them. I'm an aspiring fantasy writer, currently working on getting my work up to publishing quality. (I fear I still have a ways to go, especially with my grammar.)

And I'm also a Farscape fan, so I'll be checking that book out.

Hi, I'm an aspiring novelist who's currently revising her first fantasy novel. I think I found your journal through that series of posts you did with [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_dunne. :)

Hi. I'm an underemployed librarian working on various historical fiction projects. I have one novel making the rounds with agents and publishers and another in third draftland, both set in thirteenth-century Wales and England.

Not sure I introduced myself before.

Paul, sometimes known as "Jvstin"

Worker bee at the FRB Minneapolis. Roleplayer. Blogger. Friend of [livejournal.com profile] tryslora and well acquainted with your agent (the both of whom introduced me to your work which I've only begun to read...http://www.skyseastone.net/jvstin/unjvst/003648.html).

Hi. My day job is technical writing. I hope to finish revisions on my novel Mysterious Paris before the end of the year, and then start trying to find an agent while I complete A Science Fiction Fantasy.

I found you through the articles you posted with [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_dunne and recently found her through a mention by another writer on my flist.

Hi! That's how I find journals too, by following the breadcrumbs. Congrats on finishing the draft of your novel!

BenBella did a nice job with the collection.

And yes, completely understand not wanting to add to the chaos. I can't imagine having to move my books....

Farscape rocked. I miss it, there's just nothing that's come since that has offered that same feeling of excitement.

Hope you found the top 10 list useful. As I said in a post somewhere else in the blogsphere, Jennifer and I learned by doing, so many of the mistakes listed were ones we've made ourselves. Plus, of course, our own early dreadful attempts whichwill never again see the light of day....

Your library science background must be very useful in historical research, though the underemployed part doesn't sound as much fun. And it's great to hear that you are working on another book while you're waiting to hear about the current novel making the rounds. Too many people stop after they write one book and assume that this book will sell and if it doesn't it means they'll never be a published author. While the truth is that many of us sold our second, third, or umpteenth manuscript.

*Waves Hi*

Your picture looks familiar-- is it possible that I ran into you at World Fantasy when it was in Minneapolis, or maybe at another con?

And thanks for the nice words about DEVLIN'S LUCK. I hope you enjoy the other two books in the series.

Greetings! Good luck with your book, and in getting ready for the great agent hunt.

Livejournal's like "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" sometimes, isn't it? We follow one person to another and suddenly three links later you find someone else you want to read. My problem these days is I can't keep up with all the interesting stuff out there, and I feel guilty whenever I have to skip by a friend's entry.

But for those who do have time to surf, [livejournal.com profile] archer904 maintains a whitelist of writers, editors and other literary types with writing related blogs at http://www.livejournal.com/users/archer904/24741.html (http://www.livejournal.com/users/archer904/24741.html)

Nope, never have had the honor of meeting you. :)

One day...probably if Deb lures me to attend a con in the Northeast or if you show up at a Minneapolis one.

Well I'll be in Madison, Wisconsin for WFC in a few weeks, but that's as close as I'm getting this year.

Years ago I used to travel to Minneapolis all the time, when I was working in marketing and Northwest Airlines was one of our big customers. Luckily my stint in marketing was only a couple of years-- I miss some of the places I used to visit, but I never would have been able to become a writer if I had to keep up the constant travel and 16 hour days.

Not exactly new; I've been lurking for quite a while, but I've never introduced myself so...

Hi! ::waves:: I work at a university library but in my spare time I love reading fantasy, surfing the net, and playing "World of Warcraft". I found this LJ through your website. I read and loved "The Sword of Change" trilogy and was very happy when I found out you were working on a new series.

Cheers!

Hi! In my next life I want to work at a university library, except, of course, I'd probably never leave. Or at least that's how I imagine it, though I secretly fear it might be like working at a donut shop-- after you've gorged yourself a few times it's just another job.

Glad that you liked the first series. I hope you like the new book-- it's very similar in tone, but a new set of characters and a new world for them to inhabit. Plus lizards, because I needed them.

I really enjoyed reading the list, it gave explanation to a lot of phrases I see kicked around on writing communities. A lot of people love to use the "Show, don't tell" line without really explaining it. It gives me something to keep in mind when I'm going over my work.

I know what you mean about early attempts being kept carefully hidden away. My first attempt at a "novel" was when I was twelve. I've considered burning it, it's so bad.

Thanks for the link. I added a few more people. But I think the random running into people works best for me. If I'm not familiar with an author, seeing interesting comments, or links from others is most likely to intrigue me.

I have problems keeping up as well.... which is why I've created separate friends groups for writers and my RL friends.

I found you through a LJ friend Fancythat2 and greatly enjoyed Devlin's Luck that she recommended.

I also greatly appreciated your collaborative effort with Jennifer Dunne about 10 things... It was very helpful and I have put you on my friends list to keep it handy.

Finding good authors lately has become increasingly difficult, thank you for giving me something truly enjoyable to read!
