It's alive! THE FIRST BETRAYAL is now listed on Amazon.com, with a release date of May 30th, 2006. For some reason seeing the release date and ISBN makes this suddenly feel like a real book. Which is bizarre. I spent months of my life writing it, I've got the stacks of various revisions in my writing room to prove its existence, and yet somehow it doesn't hit me that this is a real book until I see the proof that it is indeed actually going to go on sale.

And yes, once again, that special Amazon feature that notifies you whenever one of your favorite authors has a new book coming out failed. I've never been able to make that work for either myself or any of the other authors I have in my profile.

In other writing news, Jennifer Dunne has posted lesson #4 on her LJ http://www.livejournal.com/users/jennifer_dunne/74786.html. I'm up on deck tomorrow with character motivation.

Thanks! I can't wait to see the cover art. I did see the interior design which was gorgeous, with a lizard motif.

Grin. I was just visiting Amazon to see what the cover looked like. Alas, no cover available.

Cover art comes later-- late this year or early next year. It depends on the publisher and their production cycle.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow has a January release and the cover still isn't posted up at Amazon.com, though fortunately his editor sent him a copy of the printed cover so he could drool over it.

That must be one of the top five best feelings in the world! "My Book Got Published! Looky looky! Look at the bright and shiny cover!" :-D

I was all over the cover once it came. I was suitably impressed.

And what are the other 4 best feelings in the world?

Right off the bat, I'd say: "I won the lotto!" (Another thing I have not done yet).
The rest are variable by need or mood. For example:
Oh boy, a stack of new books to read.
A new love affair.
Buying a house.
Paying off the mortgage.
Taking your shoes off when you get home.
Being inside, looking out at the cold grey rain.
A purring cat in your lap.
That first cup of coffee in the morning.
Summer. (Which we are also lacking around here).

And you don't link to the page to encourage pre-sales? What kind of self-marketer are you??? :-)

Congrats.

Having just been doing giddy dances about my next book hitting Amazon, and it suddenly feeling real, I completely understand where you're coming from. Yay! I can't wait to read it! :)

Hee! Glad I'm not the only one. You think we would have decided it was a real book when we got our checks, but no, it's all about the shiny.

Congrats! And I also went immediately to amazon to see if there was a cover. Also checked to see if I have a cover yet. *sigh*

And I agree with "jennifer_dunne": What? No link to promote yourself? Sheesh! I was all over that the moment I found the post at amazon! But this isn't your first book. Perhaps I'll calm down after having a few books already released.

Calmness is overrated.
Seriously, though, with 8 months before book release, it's a tad early for me to start promoting the title. I'll probably post a link once the actual cover art is up.
