Legalized gay marriage. Not civil unions or a watered-down separate and unequal version, but marriage with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that involves. And not via a court order that would be subject to endless challenges, but by the New York State legislature finally doing the right thing.

I've become so accustomed to the state legislature follies that I'm stunned. Thrilled, but stunned.

Exactly. As our choco-loving friend declared, "When my people throw a party we don't do it on the cheap."

Plus, with no residency requirements to get married in New York, it will now become a destination for couples from less enlightened areas.

Either way, it's a win-win for NY. You get an influx of skilled and educated people, and you get an economic windfall from the increase in the wedding/divorce industries.

Given the obvious economic benefit, I'm surprised the economic conservatives aren't on board this already, leaving behind their social brethren.

I loved that article! I love it that this won as a MORAL issue, a "let's do the right thing" issue.

I'm late to the game...

Me, I was waiting for the governor's signature. But yes, it's high time.

Wonder if we can get the man in my image do push the national senate dudes to pass it his way to sign?
