Went to see the new Harry Potter film last night. Overall it was good though the ending was weak (Death Eaters are unopposed in Hogwarts and all they do is blow up the cafeteria before leisurely strolling away?) But Draco Malfoy was desperately pretty in an emo-angst way--I kept expecting him to form a boyband or to announce that he was appearing in Nickelback's next video.

And speaking of angst rock--earlier on Sunday [livejournal.com profile] fireun and I had gone out for a caffeine-fueled writing session. While driving the radio started playing a metal rock version of Careless Whisper-- the song that features the refrain:
I'm never gonna dance again,
Cause guilty feet have got no rhythm
Needless to say the existence of this version, while excellent, sprained my brain. Google surfing revealed that the cover was by Seether-- if you go to their website at http://www.seether.com/ you can watch the official music video which adds another element of surrealism with its homage to 1980s pop culture.

And in writing news, [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow and I spent the time before HP hashing out details of the secret project, which is progressing nicely. Now, alas, it is back to the dayjob.

Turns out they're another of the bands that I've enjoyed on the radio, but never realized who they were. Their latest CD is now on my to be bought list.

:-) I've been brainwormed for over 24 hours. Had to buy the Seether MP3 version to try to drive out memories of the George Michael version that keeps trying to eat my brain.

One major reason why I am looking forward to the movie.

We're not shallow-- we're just broad minded instead of deep :-)

That is an awesome cover of "Careless Whisper".

(Of course, my memories of the song are a little warped. After the senior prom, a group of us went cruising the city and ended up dancing on the Lady Bird Johnson Memorial to Wham!'s Make It Big album playing on a boom box.)

Isn't it amazing how they transformed that song?

Through the alimbecks of crunchy guitars they transmuted angst into emo.
