I've never tried Irish soda bread, but if it's supposed to have raisins and had caraway seeds instead, I can see how that would make you go Blech!.

Dunkle Rye mit kimmel is yummy, but Irish soda bread is supposed to be mildly sweet. I suspect a plot by the English.... ;)

There's a wide variation in soda bread recipes out there--the original is supposedly without raisins, but most versions I've seen have raisins, including my family's recipe with called for both brown & golden raisins. And it is a sweet-ish bread, kind of halfway between bread and cake.
