Polling places opened at 6AM. I signed in at 8:15 AM and was voter #93 on that machine. There were three people ahead of me, and it took less than ten minutes for me to sign in, wait for my turn at the machine, vote and then leave.

When I left there were 3 or 4 people behind me, waiting their turn, and the other two machines had similar lines. Mostly older voters, which is in keeping with the makeup of the neighborhood.

I voted a couple of weeks ago, during my leave. I feel like I've lost some of that "Could this be the day" camaraderie, but I'm still glad it's over and done.

Alas New York has no early voting. There are absentee ballots if you are prepared to swear that you will be out of the county on election day, but you must apply for those in advance and they don't get opened or counted until late next week.

I like the idea of early voting, which allows recovery time in case of screwups. Be interesting to see if more states switch over to early voting by the time 2012 rolls around.

I was #231 at the machine for my ward at my local polling place up here near the finger lakes area of NY. I waited online for about 10 to 15 minutes surrounded by retirees. The other room had about the same amount of people in line, also mostly retirees. It was a bit strange knowing one of the nominees was only a couple of years older than me.

One of the markers of getting older is when they elect a president who is younger than you are. Which may explain why a certain demographic favors McCain :-)

The man I voted for is not younger than I am. However, he is a member of my generation. One day our generation, is gonna rule the population... and that day is in the not-to-distant future, eh?

Also in the Finger Lakes, I voted around 6:45am, and had to wait for four people ahead of me. I was Voter #27, and, I think, the only Democrat in the lot. Precinct 2, which must be smaller, only had about four people vote the whole time I was in there.
