I feel like a fantasy cliche

I just made stew.

It's the peril of being a writer--at times I'll critique my own behavior as if I was a character in a scene. For today, I'd have to point out that I was a trifle cliched, and if the character hasn't made stew since college, is it really believable that she'd decide to make it today?

Hmm. Now I'm wondering if my creator is about to highlight and delete the last few hours and start over again. Good thing I'm not actually a character in someone else's story...

...or so they want me to believe.

It was excellent! I halved the amount of meat the recipe called for and doubled the amount of potatoes, and it turned out to be just what an Irishwoman thinks stew should be. Which is a good thing, since the joy/curse of the crockpot is that I have three more servings awaiting me.

Very reminiscent of my mother's stew, in fact, which also pleases me.
