Returned home from Denvention to find that water heater is leaking. Con-sick, tired, and now cranky because instead of going to bed for well-earned rest, I'm keeping an eye on the basement to see if the water shutoff has stabilized things or if I need to drop the $250 bucks to get the 24 hour emergency service.

The drip slowed enough that after a telephone conversation with plumber I went to bed around 1:30. Woke up around 6, checked to find that the situation is still the same (water shut off to heater but still slow leak as it drains.) Currently waiting for plumber to arrive--I'm call #2 on the list, so it all depends on how much work call #1 needs.

I am glad you got some sleep, at least (not enough though). well, I guess you can sort of putter around and unpack? Or read one of the awesome books you got at con?

Alas it's a case of "Have laptop, will work from home." Which is probably for the best, since I remain unshowered, though there is the prospect of hot water sometime this afternoon.

Thus the books I purchased remain in the suitcase, as does my dirty laundry.

Probably best to call--plumbing issues know when you are procrastinating and pick the most inconvenient time to let loose.

The last time I had a water heater fail, it was July 4th. And it had already flooded basement by the time I woke up and wondered why I heard water running when no one was in the house....

Fortunately (?) we're in the "are you done with the job you were going to finish so you can come look at our leak?" stage...

I had a friend who had a burst pipe while she was out of town for the weekend of the Super Bowl. What is it about holidays / celebrations and plumbing?

The plumbing knows when it is most inconvenient and plots against you.
